Kan en hjemmeside med valid kode forbedre din søgeoptimering?

Når man diskutere selve kodningen af en hjemmeside med en webnørd som mig, så kommer spørgsmålet omkring kodningens søgemaskineoptimerings mæssige betydning tit frem.

Der er mange meningen omkring om det er lige meget eller ej, at koden overholder de retningslinjer der er udstedt af W3.
Et af de argumenter jeg har mødt, fra personer der mener denne faktor er ligegyldig, er at Google kan se det samme, som de selv kan se, når de ser siden i deres browser.

Jeg vil i denne artikel give mit input på hvorfor jeg ikke synes det er ligegyldigt at arbejde med valid kodning.

Det korte spørgsmål er: ”kan en hjemmeside med valid kode forbedre din søgeoptimering?”. Dertil må jeg svare et overraskende nej. Der er ikke (efter hvad jeg har kunne erfare) tegn på at sider med valid kode direkte belønnes med bedre placering, af den grund at de er valide.

Vender man dog spørgsmålet om, kan svaret være anderledes. ”kan man blive straffet for en ikke valid kode?”. Svaret hertil må være et ja, man KAN blive straffet (i nogle tilfælde).

Hvad er argumenterne så for dette.

Søgemaskiner fungerer typisk ved at servere med såkaldte robotter/crawlerer gennemgår hjemmesiden. Når disse robotter besøger siden, ser de koden – ikke selve brugerfladen.
En sådan robot er praktisktalt et program der derfor gennemgår koden for elementer den kan bruge. I søgemaskinemæssige øjne er dette elementer som metatags, overskrifter, tekst, links og billeder.

En ikke valid kode kan derfor gøre det ekstremt svært for en sådan robot at finde de elementer den gerne vil gemme, og bruge igen.

Et af de modargumenter man typisk møder her, er så: ”jamen Google har indekseret mine sider”.
Og det kan også meget vel være rigtigt, da Googles robot da selvfølgelig er bygget til at kunne gennemskue de mest gængse fejl. Men store mængder fejl i koden må ligeledes anses for kunne skade Googles crawling.

Ligeledes bør man overveje at internettet er et meget dynamisk marked, dvs. at Google måske i morgen kan havde tabt første pladsen som mest benyttede søgemaskine til en anden ny og bedre tjeneste. Har man så valgt den rigtige strategi, ved kun at tænke på hvad Google kan gennemskue af fejl vi har lavet, frem for at bygge ens hjemmeside op efter de standarder der er basis for hvordan en hjemmeside bør opbygges.

Du kan i teorien også være ligeglad med om du har et hul i dit tag. Men den dag regnvands skyerne kommer forbi dit hus. Ville du så ikke gerne dit hus var blevet bygget ordentligt?

Allerede nu viser nye tal at Google er begyndt at miste marked til andre tjenester.
Nye tal fra USA viser at den nye Microsoft søgemaskine satsning Bing, forsat vinder ind i Googles markedsandel.

I løbet af januar og februar måned er søgningerne på Bing steget med 15%, hvilket gør at Bing har kæmpet sig op på 12,5% af alle søgninger. Dette er dog stadig langt fra Googles nuværende 65,2%, og også under yahoo’s 14,1%.(kilde 1)

Lidt grov hovedregning viser dermed at ca. 1/3 søgninger foregår på andre søgetjenester end Google, kan du undvære 1/3 af dine kunder?

Af andre vigtige faktorer ud over den søgemaskine mæssige grund til valid kode, er ens hjemmesides visning i andre internet browsere. Med en valid kode kan man i højere grad være sikker på at ens side ser rigtigt ud ved alle.
